EARLY KNIGHT’S TEMPLAR SWORD, 1916-27. Early 20th century. Gilt hilt with Roman armor motif. Oriental tent pommel. Ebony grip. 30” double edged blade decorated 2/3 its length with crusades battle scenes, foliage, Templar motifs, owner's name, and knight's helmets, on faded gold ground. The ricasso with retailer's name, NATIONAL UNIFORM & CAP CO BROOKLYN. That seller is known to have worked 1916-27. Heavily gilt scabbard with high relief mounts with templar motifs. The upper hand engraved with 32 (32nd degree Mason) in drape flourish. Fine early example.

FINE KNIGHTS TEMPLAR SWORD. Mid 20th century. 29 7/8" blade finely decorated with Crusades scenes and motifs, owner's name, with the gold background just showing light wear and about 50% bright. Gilt hilt with faux ivory grip inscribed with cross, Masonic motifs and monogram. Gilt scabbard with finely detailed mounts. Fine enamel inlay to the guard and scabbard mounts (small losses). Excellent quality and excellent preservation for impressive bright presentation.

US 1872 CAVALRY OFFICER'S SWORD. See The American Sword, Peterson #86. Custer era and showing distinctive Western Frontier character. 31 3/4" broad fullered blade unmarked. Brass hilt with three bar guard and wire wrapped leather covered grip (dry but complete and excellent). Blade crisp with gray patina and minor oxidation the mid point right side, negligible. Early Custer era example with great age appearance which exudes Western/cowboy character.

PRUSSIAN M.1889 INFANTRY OFFICER’S SWORD. Standard pattern. Brass hilt with folding side guard pierced with the crowned eagle with cipher of Kaiser Wilhelm II. Wire wrapped ray skin covered grip with the crowned cipher as well 32 double fullered blade, unmarked. Blade bright with 100% plating remaining. Hilt retains nearly all bright gold.

US M.1860 STAFF & FIELD OFFICER’S SWORD. See The American Sword, Peterson #121. Standard pattern carried by Union sergeants in the Civil War. Brass hilt with eagle motif to the pommel and guard. Floral motif knuckle bow. Spirally fluted ray skin grip with twisted wire wrap. 30” double edged diamond section blade with minor finger staining, unmarked. Brass mounted plated scabbard. Good clean example with great Civil War character.

US MILITIA NON-COMMISSIONED OFFICER'S SWORD C.1850. One of the many variants (see The American Sword, Peterson #11 and #12) which were purchased by state militias before, during, and after the Civil War. Type which served extensively in the Civil War as the military was comprised to a great extent of state militias. Used by Southern militias as well as Northern, these were drawn into the Civil War on both sides. 25 3/8" straight double edged blade marked 23 at the base. Brass hilt with cruciform guard and shield form langets, with a plumed helmet pommel and reeded bone grip. Brass mounted steel scabbard, blued and now turned to brown.

US 1852 PATTERN NAVAL OFFICER’S SWORD. See The American Sword, Peterson #138. Pattern used through the Civil War and current today. This example is from the mid 20th century. Gilt brass hilt with pierced USN guard with virtually all its bright gold surface. Wire wrapped simulated ray skin grip. Original sword knot with gold bullion tassel. 30” broad fullered blade decorated with foliage, USN, eagle, stars & bars, anchor and officer's name. The ricasso with inset proof and German maker's mark, N S MEYER. Crisp and bright.
